Role of the Department of Health Essay
The Department of Health is the agency that organizes and funds health-care programs. Therefore they are the one who are concern about health. Filipinos are health conscious. Why? I can say that simply because many college students are enrolling health courses like nursing, pre-med courses like BS Biology and Medical Technology, and of course in the College of Medicine. So every year we have a lot of sets of graduates in their own fields of specialization like nurses, medical technologist, biologist, and doctors and still many which are still inclined in health and medicine. With that I am certain that what is stated before was right. Therefore it is expected that we shall have healthy society prone from any illness and aware of what we ought to carry out to evade such sickness. Nevertheless, sorry to say that though the fact that our country has produce so many health inclined professionals, glitches regarding health is still one of the main hitch that our country should work out.
Well, we can’t skin the fact that some nor should I say many doctors, nurses, medical technologists, physical therapists, etc. has to leave the country and work overseas to earn much money. How can they abandon their own country? But then we can’t blame them if they have that idea of leaving the country just after getting experiences here because in the first place our country can’t afford to employ all of these employees because our government doesn’t have enough funds to support them because they are numerous. So just a few are left behind and before they will be permanently got the job to work on the hospitals or clinics they have to volunteer their selves to work first without paying their services. Just imagine the things that they have to undergo before they reach their positions, isn’t it really enduring? That’s why we can’t blame those who leave the country and prefer to work overseas. We can see many problems regarding health nowadays due to many reasons.
One reason is our environment. Our environment is not safe anymore because pollution is taking place everywhere and so we can get a lot of illness from an unhealthy environment. Another is that the foods that we take in and also the water that we drink. We are not conscious anymore on the foods that we take in. We prefer instant food because we’re busy on our own businesses and so we got lazy to prepare for our own food so we just drop by to any restaurants or fast food chains. We don’t notice the effects that it may give to our health. But practicing that habit is really not good in our health because those are not safe to eat and little by little as we keep that habit we may now get secret deceases that we don’t know that it’s already killing us little by little. We just figure it out after it’s already deadly and have to engage in medications where it is expected that you are going to spend a great amount of money just for that medication.
The worst thing is that you don’t have the perfect percentage chance to recover. Another thing is during when calamities come to visit our country and obliterate our lives. For example is that, during calamities we have to evacuate to evacuation centers as by order by the government. There, for the passing time as we wait for the typhoon for instance stop we have to live there with the whole community. With the scarcity of all important needs like food, clothes, and everything we have to share everything we have for everybody. Therefore illnesses like cough, fever, some also during this times dengue and leptose pyrosies are prone to everyone. Also many dying senior citizens, mothers who are pregnant and about to give birth, can you imagine situation like this. It’s hard isn’t it? Complications everywhere is hard to regulate because you can’t have that in hand because it’s really unpredictable. Many individuals suffer from deadly deceases.
In the hospitals we can observe and say that it is not easy to stay even just for a day because of course nobody would want to witness the patients who are suffering a lot. But beside this reason I also observe that some hospitals doesn’t observe cleanliness instead I can see mess around and can smell gross odors around, with the fact that they should be the model because they are one patronizing that we should all observe cleanliness for a healthy society. But now, look at some hospitals they are now breaking their own rules. They are also lacking w/ the hospital facilities that our government would have to make out so that there will be no reason for the persons who are concern like the doctors not to perform well because according to one doctor, they can’t immediately attend to some patients because they lack in like these and like that. And lastly some of the employees are not approachable. You know, it’s really tough to interact to employees who are not well in socializing to others.
Especially when they know you as just an ordinary person then the more they will not attend on your needs. How can they be not so dedicated with their works, despite the fact that they have pledge when they got license on their particular fields that they will do their job well. I believe that employees like them don’t deserve to be standing where they are right now. But some of them deserves to be praised and have to be given incentives because they have given their very best to perform their duties well and besides of that they also render extra services to the people. Like going to the barrios to give health missions and give the residents information on how to maintain healthy lifestyle and some extra activities that can benefit everybody.
As to the performance of our health secretaries, doctors, nurses and all the people concern on the health status of our country, I can say that they still need positive improvements regarding on their behaviors and also need to learn on how they can motivate their selves to have this sense of volunteering to render their services to the needy so that through their small ways we may be able to develop a healthy society and better community. Health programs must benefit everybody especially those who are not well off in life. Health programs like Phil-Health, I can say that as of now, not everybody is being benefited. Just a while ago when President Aquino include on his SONA, the Phil-Health program has also been benefited those poor citizens that doesn’t afford to pay the monthly payment for the said program that at least for the few months they are free.
We can’t really take away the bad habit that we have to prioritize the sake of the well off than of the underprivileged. Come to think of the possible consequences if these wrong actions are irresistible. Are we able to develop a peaceful and healthy society? Sad to say we’ll never, if that difficult situation will have to persist. I also observe, that even at times like distributing free medicines, rendering health missions to the different places especially on the far flank areas and so much more, I think misunderstandings are inevitable to each and everyone. So to whom we should blame? Well I think of course, it should be the Department of Health who must take charge because they are the one who concerns about this field.
And so I think the main reason for these disputes regarding what is mention there is the lack of service that citizens receive. In other words they are not satisfied. You can see that after these health missions and the like, people would gather or just by any ordinary acquaintances, they would discuss on what can they say or exchange thoughts about it. And probably most of them have will give negative reactions. Are they ready to encounter different health problems?
Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona announced today that the Department of Health (DOH) is more prepared today in responding to potential infectious disease threats such as severe respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus being reported today from the Middle East. “Our experience in the previous global public health emergencies such as the SARS Coronavirus in 2002-2003, the Pandemic Influenza H1N1 in 2009-2010 has given us the necessary capacity to respond to similar threats,” Ona said. The National Epidemiology Center as the national focal point of the International Health Regulation, is in charge of the public health surveillance in collaboration with the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and the Bureau of Quarantine. RITM now has the capability for rapid detection methods, a fully-equipped laboratory and hospital facilities and trained personnel in responding to these potential threats.
The Bureau of Quarantine is responsible for screening travelers visiting the country for illnesses that may pose as health threats. Recently, the UK Health Protection Agency reported of a laboratory-confirmed case of severe respiratory illness associated with a new type of coronavirus. The patient is from the Middle East and was diagnosed in a London hospital. “I have instructed the NEC to coordinate with the WHO for regular updates on this situation and to adapt the case definition shared by WHO to identify suspect cases; the RITM to be on alert for possible detection and management of cases in the country; the Bureau of Quarantine for routine screening of passengers and their subsequent evaluation or treatment at RITM when needed,” Ona concluded. About that report, I know that somehow our weariness have been lessen that at least they were able to give us a good report and not just problems that will take us for how many times to solve those issues.
Many have died, and still many lives are still in risk because of so many health problems. We also lack on the powerful medicines that would help cure the patient’s deceases. We lack of modern technologies to track modern and easy way of curing them. This is a usual problem because as what is always stated, our government lacks funds. But there, to the government’s side, we can see that they were also doing their best to comply with all the needs, it’s just that it is a matter a great amount of funds. Just recently it’s a great thing that they are exerting efforts in rendering their services. The health agency as well as medical schools are starting in working out together to develop a healthy society. Many symposiums and seminars are regularly practice and have been actively participated by the citizens in the country.
Those far flank places, as we now being abreast from the news, we can also see the improvement from the past few years, and has been reach by the experts regularly and that we can’t see too much serious problems now compared before that they still need to travel by walking just to reach the clinics. Many excellent doctors, medical technologists, scientists and those who are concern in health are now all working out together to make up to a new and upgraded remedies to cure deceases. Cheap medicines are now also developed by experts in order that everybody can afford it. I ask some watchers in the public hospitals that are they contented on the services of the hospital?
According to most of them it’s enough that that they were able to respond to the patient’s needs and able to help the patients to survive. And I also ask regarding their bills in the hospitals. I come to know then that they were giving deductions from the whole amount of the bill through some private organizations. That is really a great help for them because if you’re lucky enough you can even get two sponsors, but that really depends on your case because they have to investigate you also with your status in life to be fare to those who really deserves it like the indigent patients. We all know that being healthy is really very important. If we are sick it affects the whole family that makes them also sick. With those activities, programs and changes in the health system, I believe that it will still improve and I’m looking forward to also experience a healthy society in the future.
